I realised long ago that charity collection pots and raffle prizes just don’t cut it when it comes to raising money in mountain biking. The return on investment for the groups against the effort it takes just isn’t worth it – it’s probably why so few people do it. But the model goes on and on and on and on. Rattle, rattle, rattle, ching, ching, ching; woohoo! 57p!
It’s just bloody hard work.
The Trail Pot will change all that. By building a centralised fund from which projects can apply for funding, at least some of the burden of the chase will be alleviated. The penny pots and raffles can still be used of course, but The Trail Pot will provide a constant, national fund for ambitious grassroots projects to go for and professionalise how fundraising in the maturing MTB community can be done.
But it cannot work without local support: the LBSs, cafes, coaches and guides who sit at the centre of the communities. We’re asking them to get on board and show how up for changing things the community is. With their support, the bigger businesses are far more likely to join the party. And a bigger pot overall means a bigger slice of pie to each of our regions.
We’ve just got started, but you can build the momentum with us.
If you’re an LBS, get behind the trail pot. It doesn’t need to cost you anything – this is moving beyond begging bowl and freebies. If you know an LBS that isn’t aware of The Trail Pot, get them on board.
Work with us and let’s show the difference the community can make.
